EXCERPTS FROM EP. 210 "RENDEZVOUS"
The rendezvous spot; a seedy hotel on the edge of town.
SARA looks in the mirror... it’s been a long, long day.
She’s standing under the sickly fluorescent that illuminates
her “bathroom” sink, which actually stands alone on one wall
of the decrepit hotel room where she’s scheduled to meet
Michael today.
Her purse sits on the counter. She pulls a MAKEUP BAG out of
it, dumps it in the SINK, looking for anything that might
help her brush her teeth. She’s got a lot of stuff in there,
but nothing that looks suitable.
INT. SUNDOWN HOTEL - ROOM 9
Sara’s room appears to be empty; we hear the SOUND OF THE
SHOWER. Then, a fierce KNOCK at the door.
Sara, apprehensive, steps out of the bathroom, hair dripping
wet, wrapped in a towel.
It’s THE HOTEL PROPRIETOR GUY. She opens the door with the
chain still on.
SARA
Yes?
SUNDOWN HOTEL GUY
You got a fax.
He shoves it in the two-inch gap in the door. Sara takes it.
SARA
Thank you.
She shuts the door, looks down...
SARA’S POV: IN MICHAEL’S HANDWRITING, it says “ONE HOUR.
16781 BUTTERFIELD ROAD.”
OFF SARA...
As she sits in the driver’s seat, door open, we hear THE
CRUNCH OF GRAVEL as an unseen car pulls up behind hers onto
the side of the road.
TWO BLACK SHOES step
out, into the foreground. The car door SLAMS.
MICHAEL
Sara.
Sara looks over, steps out of the Taurus. She turns...
reveal IT’S MICHAEL. He walks up to her. They land inches
apart...
A lot of complicated emotions here -- including anger and
betrayal. But after an awkward beat, they embrace, out of
their shared relief and mutual misery over the past ten
episodes. Sara rests her head on his shoulder for a beat.
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
It’s so good to see you.
SARA
Yeah.
She pulls away a little, so they’re face to face. Michael
could make the move to kiss her, but she looks down so he
can’t.
MICHAEL
I’m glad you came.
SARA
I didn’t have much of a choice.
It’s not that simple. You lied to
me.
SARA (CONT'D)
Did you know about all those other
guys? Those murderers -- T-Bag?
I let them out on the street --
MICHAEL
I never wanted it to happen. I was
doing what I had to do. My brother
was going to die --
SARA
Other people have died, Michael.
My father died.
SARA (CONT'D)
They came to my apartment to kill
me.
MICHAEL
That’s why you can’t go home.
She knows he’s right. Michael reaches out to her, touches
her hair.
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
I’m sorry, Sara. For what I did to
you. It’s my biggest regret, in
this whole thing.
SARA
It’s too late for that --
MICHAEL
I don’t expect you to forgive me...
but I don’t want you to be alone in
this.
SARA
I can’t solve everything by running
away.
MICHAEL
The important thing is that we’ll
be together.
SARA
First-aid kit, disposable phones...
MICHAEL
What about the motel?
SARA
Fine. Didn’t ask for ID. Twenty
bucks a night, or five for an hour.
Let’s go get you cleaned up.
Another downtrodden, crappy motel -- the mainstay of the
fugitive life. There’s a small table by the window; Michael sits
beside it, sleeve rolled up, as Sara attends to the wound in
his arm. She opens a bottle of peroxide.
SARA
This isn’t going to feel good.
MICHAEL
I have a high tolerance for pain.
SARA
So I’ve seen.
(then)
You aren’t even diabetic, are you?
Off his look, indicating he isn’t -- and he isn’t proud of
his lie.
SARA (CONT'D)
Hold still.
Michael winces as Sara cleans up his arm.
SARA (CONT'D)
Don’t you think part of you likes
this, Michael?
MICHAEL
(gritting his teeth
against the pain)
Peroxide in my open wounds?
SARA
I mean all of it. Escaping from
prison. Being on the run. The
danger, the fear. It gives you a
certain rush. I’m pretty familiar
with it... it’s a lot like chasing
a high.
MICHAEL
I can see the comparison.
SARA
Yeah. I should know better by now.
She places the bloody gauze on the table, applies a bandage.
Michael looks at her.
MICHAEL
It won’t always be this way.
SARA
How do you know that? Because from
everything you’ve told me, it just
keeps getting worse.
Michael reaches for her somehow.
MICHAEL
They can’t chase us forever. This
guy who caught up with us today --
he stops at the border. That’s why
we need to get to the other side.
Sara looks conflicted.
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
Just give me another day.
Their faces are so close...
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
One day at a time, Sara. That’s
all I’m asking.
They could kiss, they’re so close. It almost happens -- but
she turns away.
SARA
You should go wash up.
MICHAEL
Okay.
He stands up. Before he goes into the bathroom:
MICHAEL (CONT'D)
I’m glad you came.
Sara watches him go in the bathroom. He shuts the door.
